I have always wanted my own restaurant – I’m sure it’s what most chefs dream about, but I never thought it would happen; finding investors in this industry is tough.
At the beginning of 2016, we decided to take the plunge and try to raise the funds we needed by launching a crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter. I quit my job, we put all our savings in and we went for it. After an emotional ‘all or nothing’ funding drive, where we spent a month panicking over whether it would work or not, we completed the project successfully and raised just over £100,000. With the additional help of some investors, my dream was set to become a reality.
After a year of searching for the right venue, a few disappointments and a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, we found this amazing site on Church Street in Stratford-upon-Avon just outside the Cotswolds. On 18th March 2017, we opened the doors of Salt; a fine dining restaurant using the best produce, served in a relaxed atmosphere where you can sit back, relax and enjoy your dining experience.
After one and a half years we were super proud to receive Stratford-upon-Avons first ever Michelin star, 3 AA rosettes and 6/10 in the good food guide.
2020 is another big year for the restaurant as we opened salt Cookery school and Chefs table above the restaurant. Offering a variety of cookery courses from bread and pasta to meat butchery and fish preparation. We will also use the cookery school as a private dining space where we cook in the room in front of our guests. Keep your eye on our Cookery school page for the latest courses and guest chef events.
